MOGADISHNI IS MOVING TO BREDGADE IN CENTRAL COPENHAGEN
One of Denmark’s most innovative galleries is now, once again, taking another direction.
THE STORY BEGINS IN ISLANDS BRYGGE IN COPENHAGEN
The story begins in 2000 when 24-year-old Christian Chapelle opened the non commercial exhibition place ”the leisure club MOGADISHNI” at Islands Brygge. The leisure club was – as the name suggests – a playground with an ongoing contemporary art program displaying younger Danish and international artists.
MOGADISHNI BECOMES “FIRSTMOVER” OF A NEW ART CENTER IN COPENHAGEN
At the end of 2001, Christian Chapelle commercialised the gallery and got rid of the leisure club, maintaining only the name MOGADISHNI. In 2003, MOGADISHNI as the first gallery moved from Islands Brygge to an old factory building in Valby/Copenhagen. MOGADISHNI became one of the most significant contemporary art galleries in Denmark, and it was the founder of what was to become the most dynamic art gallery area in Copenhagen.
MOGADISHNI MOVES TO BREDGADE
During the past few years, MOGADISHNI has grown, and the international profile is stronger than ever. Due to the gallery’s possibilities for development, MOGADISHNI has decided to move to more exclusive and better situated facilities in Central Copenhagen.
MOGADISHNI will open in the new gallery space in Bredgade February 13th 2009. The opening exhibition is with the famous Canadian artist Neil Farber.
